Update on Fancy Farm

We are now supplying cinnamon and specialty rolls for Symposium Coffee in downtown Sherwood. They are buying 3-4 dozen 3 times a week. Apparently our rolls are creating quite a buzz around town. Symposium informed us that people are coming from Forest Grove (a 45 drive) just to try our specialty rolls! In addition to our regular flavors we have also supplied them with blueberry, peach, chocolate creme brulee, coconut cream, and pumpkin. Check out our website for pictures! Symposium says that they are just flying off the shelves. It is so great to see all of the excitement over our products!

As always, please email us or call us if you would like to make an order. Or you can always purchase them individually at Symposium! Thank you for all of your support.

Price List

Thank you to everyone who was able to come and sample our cinnamon rolls last night! We had had 8 delicious varieties for everyone to try out. If you were able to attend please feel free to comment on your favorite. We would love to hear some feedback!

In addition to the flavors listed on the price list we also had a chocolate creme brulee, filled with chocolate custard with a crunchy carmelized topping. Yum! The other was an Easter special, filled with strawberry and a vanilla custard and topped with a pretty pink strawberry buttercream, coconut, and jelly beans. Not only did it look cute and festive, but tasted delicious! Unfortunately we were so caught up in sharing these new treats last night we did not get any pictures this time.

We hope to bake for each of you again, please give us a call or send us an email!

New Flavors

So Evi and I got together the other day to experiment with some new flavor combinations for our Fancy Rolls. Again we were amazed at how delicious they all turned out. We received great reviews from all our taste testers out there.

First I was inspired by the bounty of fresh lemons I brought back with me from my visit to Southern California. We filled the rolls with homemade lemon curd and topped with meringue frosting, creating a Lemon Meringue pie fancy roll. So yummy for all those lemon lovers out there!

Next we decided to make a Valentine's inspired roll. We filled them them with homemade raspberry jam and chocolate, topped with chocolate frosting and a raspberry drizzle. Very decadent and definitely made for chocolate lovers!

Then we decided to make a caramel apple pecan cinnamon roll (we can actually call this a cinnamon roll since it had cinnamon in it!) We filled them with a homemade apple pie filling, toasted pecans, drizzled with homemade caramel. If that doesn't scream comfort food, I don't know what does!!

Last of all we made one inspired by my husband's favorite candy bar. We filled the rolls with peanut butter, chopped peanuts, chocolate, and homemade caramel. We topped them with frosting and drizzled with chocolate and caramel and of course a few pieces of a Snicker's candy bar.

They were all so yummy, words don't do them justice so you will have to take our word for it (or order some for yourself). I will work on getting some pictures up later, most of them looked ALMOST as good as they tasted!

Pictures

Here are some pictures of our test fancy rolls. We look forward to trying new flavor combinations and getting our menu together.

The Chocolate Peanut Butter was a big hit!

The White Chocolate Candy cane, great for a cold winter day with a cup of hot chocolate!

The Strawberry Cheescake, just as good as it sounds!

A Little Background

Welcome to Fancy Farm Bakery! We are in the beginning phases of starting our new business and we thought it would be a good idea to start a blog, to get the word out. My husband is working on the website and I'm sure it will be much better than this, but at least we are starting somewhere!

A few months ago I was talking to my husband's aunt, Evi Huffman, about baking. We both love to be in the kitchen and she is a fabulous baker, I have learned so much from her in the almost 8 years I've known her. She has been practically FAMOUS in the area for her delicious cinnamon rolls since before I ever came to Oregon. In fact the first visit I ever made to Oregon was almost 8 years ago, while in college to visit a longtime friend, who happened to be married to another of Evi's nephews. My friend kept telling me how amazing these cinnamon rolls were, so we spent a fun afternoon at Evi's beautiful farm riding horses and making cinnamon rolls, which tasted every bit as amazing as I had heard! Seriously, once you try one of these rolls you will never go back to that cinnamon roll place at the mall again!

Anyway, fast forward a few years and I too am living in Sherwood, Oregon (though not on a beautiful farm!) I am a stay-at-home mother, trying to earn extra money by decorating cakes and baking eclairs and other yummy treats. So I started talking to Evi, who had been fairly successful at selling her cinnamon rolls, but had not yet established it to the degree where she would like it. We thought it would be fun to team up and start a baking business together. Then came the next dilemma....what do we sell?

We tossed around a few ideas, then started into the what-if's. What if we didn't just make cinnamon rolls, but FANCY cinnamon rolls, meaning various varieties of the common cinnamon rolls? We got together one afternoon and started to experiment. We threw out a few ideas, then proceeded to make what we could with what was in the pantry that day. Of course not all of them have cinnamon in them, so we call them Fancy Rolls instead of Cinnamon Rolls.

The first one we made was a Chocolate Peanut-Butter, YUM! Then since it was the holidays we thought a candy cane one would be fun, so we made Peppermint-White Chocolate. Next on the list was a Cranberry-White Chocolate, made with home-made cranberry sauce (nothing from a can thank you!) Last of all we decided to experiment with some summer flavors, using some home-made strawberry jam...made from the beautiful Oregon strawberries available here in the Northwest. Using the strawberry jam we created a Strawberry-Cheesecake roll that was absolutely delicious. In fact, we were pleased to discover that they all turned out very well! We had several friends who were more than willing to be taste-testers.

That was the beginning of Fancy Farm Bakery! We are working on developing a tasty menu on a website that local Portlanders can order from. We hope to deliver our delicious treats all over the Portland area so that people can enjoy the variety that Fancy Farm Bakery has to offer!
